Leaving Your Comfort Zone

July 2023

Making the decision to step out of your comfort zone is no small thing. It takes courage, strength, and dedication to take that leap into the unknown.

During the pandemic, I had a lot more time to reflect on my life and goals and realized that I wanted to live life a little larger.

Larger for me started with baby steps. And like most things, it started with my family.

I am afraid of heights and I forced myself to go ziplining with my family over the 2021 winter break. It was a baby zipline, not very long and not very high. I screamed the whole way. It made my family super happy that they could share something they enjoyed with me. And when we were done, I was ridiculously proud of myself.

The flip side of stepping out of your comfort zone is that you make mistakes along the way. Making mistakes is an inevitable part of the professional setting. It's natural to make errors and it happens to everyone, no matter their level of experience or expertise. I have learned that as uncomfortable as it is in the aftermath of a mistake, the subsequent path is worth it. To stay in your safe zone is to do nothing and learn nothing. That path is not for me. I have learned that making mistakes is just part of the process. It's how we learn and grow.

I love the idea in the video below. Own your mistakes. They are an investment you made in you AND you are a lot better for them.
